Terms of use

Terms for using StopLighty

Effective July 13, 2026

These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of stoplighty.com and its related pages, maps, features, and services (collectively, the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Informational service

StopLighty is an independent public-information and discussion service. It is not a government agency, emergency service, traffic-control system, or substitute for official transportation information. Intersection descriptions, maps, wait-time reports, comments, votes, jurisdiction details, and reporting links may be incomplete, delayed, inaccurate, or outdated. Do not rely on the Service while driving or for navigation, safety-critical decisions, emergency response, or compliance with traffic laws.

2. No emergency or official reporting

Posting on StopLighty does not notify a city, transportation department, law-enforcement agency, or emergency responder. For an immediate danger, call 911 or the appropriate emergency number. Report malfunctioning signals and other official concerns directly to the responsible agency. Government links are provided for convenience and may change.

3. Public comments and submissions

Comments, display names, reported wait times, and other submissions are public and may be indexed by search engines. Do not submit personal, confidential, sensitive, or identifying information about yourself or anyone else. You are responsible for what you submit and represent that you have the right to submit it.

You retain ownership of your submission. By submitting content, you grant StopLighty a worldwide, nonexclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, display, format, distribute, moderate, and use that content to operate, improve, promote, and protect the Service. This license continues for content already distributed or retained for legitimate legal, security, backup, and moderation purposes.

4. Acceptable use

You may not use the Service to post or distribute unlawful, threatening, harassing, hateful, defamatory, obscene, deceptive, infringing, invasive, or abusive material; impersonate another person; disclose personal information; advertise or solicit; manipulate comments or votes; submit automated or repetitive content; probe or disrupt the Service; bypass access controls, rate limits, CAPTCHA, or security measures; scrape the Service in a manner that creates unreasonable load; or violate any law or another person’s rights.

5. Moderation and enforcement

StopLighty may review, hide, remove, preserve, or disclose submissions and may restrict access at any time when reasonably necessary to operate the Service, enforce these Terms, address abuse, comply with law, or protect users and third parties. We are not obligated to monitor every submission and do not endorse user content. Moderation decisions may be made without advance notice.

6. Third-party services and data

The Service may use or link to third-party maps, street-level imagery, geographic data, government websites, security services, advertising services, and other resources. Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy practices. StopLighty does not control and is not responsible for third-party content, availability, accuracy, security, or conduct. References to third parties do not imply affiliation or endorsement.

7. Intellectual property

Except for user submissions and third-party materials, the Service—including its design, branding, software, organization, and original text—is owned by StopLighty or its licensors and is protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. You may use the Service for personal, lawful, noncommercial purposes. No other right is granted except as expressly stated in these Terms.

8. Copyright concerns

If you believe material on the Service infringes your copyright or other rights, email [email protected] with your contact information, identification of the work and material, the relevant URL, a good-faith statement, and any other information needed to evaluate the request.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, reliability, availability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and noninfringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or free of harmful components.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, StopLighty and its owners, operators, contributors, contractors, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, lost profits, lost data, personal injury, property damage, traffic incidents, or losses arising from or related to the Service, user submissions, third-party services, or your reliance on information presented here. Where liability cannot be excluded, aggregate liability will not exceed the greater of $100 or the amount you paid to use the Service during the preceding twelve months.

11. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless StopLighty and its owners, operators, contributors, contractors, and service providers from claims, damages, liabilities, losses, and expenses—including reasonable legal fees—arising from your submission, misuse of the Service, violation of these Terms, or violation of another person’s rights.

12. Changes and availability

We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service and may update these Terms. Material revisions will be identified by a new effective date. Your continued use after revised Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of those Terms.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute that is not subject to a different mandatory forum will be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction located in Minnesota. If any provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. These Terms and the Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement concerning the Service.
